A gory, cute, sickening, schizophrenic and malevolent series that I could not stomache. It has a lot of fans; I'm not sure why.
The story is nonsense and changes from game to game. It is not the drawing factor of the series.
The visuals are crude but enjoyable. The decision to make cute characters and innocent scenarios only to pervert them is either its selling point or insurmountable flaw. As an instance of this, you come across some bear-people in Towelket 3. They have abducted a 13-year-old girl and intend to marry her to the leader of the bears. You save her and the majority of the bears give up. The leader-bear you take into your party. But afterwards, the leader-bear talks only about how his desire to have intercourse with the girl and even suggests raping her. It's also shown he has a series of sex-dolls made in her image. The Japanese are weird; I can laugh at the bear, taking sacred marriage and talking crudely about it, pointing it into just sex. It's a funny idea to take the scenario of saving a heroine from a forced marriage and break the sense of it. But to do so in such extremes, to go so far as to have him speak of raping her, to make this poignant vulgarity his entire character, is beyond a jest and becomes malevolence: just a gross desire to pervert an image and expel and extremified emotion. And this is my issue with the whole game: it goes to a degree where it becomes gross and tasteless, like I'm watching the vomit of the author wriggle its way across my screen, a gross sadism taken form.
I would not recommend playing this game. It is like reading Marquis de Sade, but with a pretense and visual image of innocence.
